We dropped Shawn off at the Provo MTC today. The policy for MTC departures has changed since Neil left 20 months ago. It used to be hearing "Called to Serve" sung by missionaries in the film made in the early 1990's (it could still bring tears to your eyes)and hearing the MTC mission presidency welcome your son (or daughter) into the MTC. Then, there was the tearful departure where the missionary went out one door, and the tearful family out the other.
Times have changed. No more film with son and family. In this post H1N1 flu era, it feels like you drive up to the curb, kick your son out the car door, and throw his luggage out the window. It is not quite this abrupt, but it sure feels like it.
Shawn is in the advanced Spanish group at the MTC. He is supposed to be there for three weeks, and then will go somewhere in Utah as he awaits his visa for Argentina
